Thailand’s immigration bureau recently began asking all foreigners who live in the country to provide bank account numbers, social media account details, places they frequently visit and details about their vehicles.
The government claims that such questions are a matter of “national security.”
Besides the obvious violations of personal privacy involved, the Thai government’s ability to protect sensitive is seriously doubt. The Thai government has had two recent data leaks involving the details of foreigners in Thailand. Thailand is also considered “high risk” for “cybersecurity threats” by BitDefender.
