As if Singapore wasn’t a terrible enough tourist destination already with their ultra high prices, retarded locals and terrible women, now the needle dicks in the Singapore government have instituted a public drinking ban that can land you in jail for up to three months! Yea, you heard that right, jail!
Officially dubbed “The Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act,” it was passed in Parliament in January and went into effect on April 1, 2015. From the Singapore Straits Times:
Under the law, drinking is banned in all public places from 10.30pm to 7am. Retail shops are also not allowed to sell takeaway alcohol from 10.30pm to 7am.
There are stricter rules in Geylang and Little India, which are designated as Liquor Control Zones – places with a higher risk of public disorder associated with excessive drinking. Public drinking is banned in Geylang and Little India from 7am on Saturday to 7am on Mondays. The ban also applies from 7pm on the eve of a public holiday to 7am after the holiday. Shops within the zones are also not allowed to sell takeaway alcohol from 7pm on weekends, the eve of a public holiday and the holiday itself.
On the penalties:
Anyone drinking illegally can be fined up to $1,000 and repeat offenders may be fined up to $2,000 and jailed for up to three months. A shop selling alcohol after the permitted hours could be fined up to $10,000.
The penalty is 1 1/2 times if one is caught breaking the law in Liquor Control Zones.
One of the few silver linings that used to exist in Singapore was that you could always hit up Club 7 (711) grab a few beers and walk around one of the party districts like Clark Quay; now you can be fined or jailed for this innocent indulgence. Way to gay up your country even further, Singapore! Tourists would never want to drink alcohol outside in a country with perma-summer weather that’s full of open air bars, whorehouses and hooker bars. You can’t even buy duty free alcohol in the airport after 10:30pm now and you need a permit to have a BBQ. I can’t say I really expect anything different from a country that will fine you $200,000 or even confiscate your home for using Airbnb but this just makes it an even shittier place to visit even for a short layover. What a shitty place full of shitty people and a dictatorial government! Vote with your wallet and your feet and just don’t visit.
