Guest Post: Medical Marijuana

WeedI used to believe the U.S. Government had its citizen’s best interests at heart. However, I have been a Government contractor for over 10 years and in that time I have seen firsthand instances of such gross incompetence, cronyism and rampant waste that that old belief is long gone.

Today while reading another article I saw something that blew the top of my skull off. Everyone always jokes that someone should patent weed because it’s just so darn fun and helpful. Guess what? Someone did. The U.S. Government. I’m not joking. The proof is hosted not on some wing-nut’s conspiracy blog but at the United States Patent Office’s official website, patent number 6630507. That’s right. You heard me correctly. The same government that vaporizes billions of dollars a year on the war on drugs has patented weed. Read about halfway down the page at all the benefits they list.

Close your mouth. Sit back. Take a moment if you need to.

While you process that brain-bomb allow me to expound on a related issue. I have a deep seated hatred for the U.S. Industrial Prison Complex. The war on drugs feeds this machine directly and ever so efficiently.

Consider these fun facts from DrugPolicy.org:

Fact: More than 800,000 people are arrested for marijuana each year, the vast majority of them for simple possession. Police prosecuted 858,408 persons for marijuana violations in 2009, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s annual Uniform Crime Report. Marijuana arrests now comprise more than one-half (approximately 52 percent) of all drug arrests reported in the United States. A decade ago, marijuana arrests comprised just 44 percent of all drug arrests. Approximately 46 percent of all drug prosecutions nationwide are for marijuana possession. Of those charged with marijuana violations, approximately 88 percent (758,593 Americans) were charged with possession only. The remaining 99,815 individuals were charged with “sale/manufacture,” a category that includes virtually all cultivation offenses.

Does anybody else but me see a problem with this? Have we found a new Guinness Book World Record setting example of Government Conflict of Interest while simultaneously committing gross acts of hypocrisy? I think so. And being that the patent was awarded in 2003, our dear government has been the Undisputed World Champ for almost a decade now. The only reason I am quietly sitting in my cube serving out my 40 year Corporate prison sentence is because I haven’t fully formulated my escape plan and decided on a place to go.

The time is now. Run, brothers. It’s only going to get worse. If you are intent on staying here go get the facts, learn the issues, pester your Congressperson and take your ass to vote.

watch your back,

The Redi Knight

Editorial note: For some reason we neglected to publish this article for some time but it is still highly relevant. More recently news broke that the US Government now admits marijuana can kill cancer.
