Happy New Year’s, dudes! I hope everyone had as fun and productive of a year as I did. I did a lot of traveling, to more than 15 other countries which was very fun and profitable and educational. We started this blog, I bought gold, read a bunch of good books, had some great girlfriends, had some professional successes in my regular life, dodged ladyboys, insulted some fat American chicks and hipsters, and generally tried to make the most of the gift of the last 365 days. Not everything was a success, in fact there were as many failures as successes, but that is a necessary part of the process. Above all, I learned a shitload about the world and myself this year and I’m looking forward to doing the same in 2012.

I believe that the secret to a successful life is keep accomplishing things every day, no matter how small, and the cumulative effect of that is looking back after a while and seeing that you’ve accomplished a lot. Putting one foot in front of the other is the technique that successful people employ in life. There is, in my opinion, no “Eureka!” moment. Success is just a long series of small steps which over a long time frame result in significant accomplishment.

But, you have to know what direction you want to want to take those steps, and that’s why goals are important. The way to be happy with your life in my opinion is to figure out what makes you happy and work backwards from there to figure out the path to get there. For me, it’s working on what I want to work on when I want to work on it, traveling to cool new places as well as cool old places, meeting people who share my values, having nice smart beautiful girlfriends, eating great food, learning about everything I can learn about, hearing good music, doing good drugs, enjoying good weather, and generally just making the most of these few moments on Earth that I am lucky enough to have.

How about you? Everyone has a different place where there happiness is to be found. Have you really sat down and thought about what really makes you happy? Not what you think will, but what actually does make you happy. When you have that moment that you say to yourself, “This is awesome, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be, or no one else I’d rather be with, or nothing else I’d rather be doing.” That’s the moment when it’s essential to stop for a second and really take note of what it is that actually makes you happy.

On this first day of 2012, the year which according to the Mayans as well as Boris’ crackpot theory from the beach in Boracay will be the end, take a moment and think about how to take steps toward where you really want to be in life. Assuming the world does indeed still exist, where do you want to be on January 1, 2013? Freed from the corporate prison? In better health? More well read? Better at your job? With a gorgeous smart nice girl who is as grateful for you as you are for her? And what tasks do you want to accomplish? Start a new business, write a book, build a house, start a blog, quit your job, what?

Today, don’t start working towards those goals, just figure out what those goals really are. Figure out a plan for 2012 that will make you a cooler, smarter, richer, happier and healthier dude. Today, decide what kind of life you really want and what direction to head to get there.

Tomorrow we get to work.

Thanks for a great year everybody.

Call me Charlie. I decided to join with others to write this blog because I feel that I have learned a lot about how to succeed in life in general. It took a lot of trial and error and I've developed a wealth of philosophies, skills, and tricks of the trade that would be very useful to like minded guys out there. There's no need to repeat my mistakes, of which I have made many, instead I urge you to read this blog, absorb and practice its lessons, and then go out and have the most awesome life, on your own terms. To me that means good health, success in your career, the number and type of relationships you want, and general satisfaction that you're not wasting your life spinning your wheels, but going forward always towards your goals.
