I’ve lived in Thailand for more than 5 years, and I firmly believe that it’s a Single Dude’s Paradise. I’ve been all over in Asia, but I chose to live in Thailand because it had everything I was looking for: pretty and available women, gorgeous beaches, a thick expat community, and a cheap cost of living. There are drawbacks, but many are overstated and easily avoidable. It’s not perfect, but no place is. I think the Single Dude’s have a fantastic website here, and a lot of their observations on Thailand were spot on. I definitely think they picked up on more more than most casual tourist’s do, so their posts are worth reading. But there’s plenty that they missed, … [Read more]
Today we bring you a guest post from Skins over at SingleMansParadise.com. We think it’s a great article that is spot on about Ko Samui and we haven’t covered this location yet. You may also be interested in our other posts Rilay Beach, Phuket, the Song Kran festival, Thailand in general and how to spot a ladyboy. Also of note is … [Read more]
Bali, Indonesia, is a nice place. Manuel has been going there for the last several years and I finally got to check it out this summer when Team Single Dude spent a very pleasant week there. I can’t give Bali a top score for single dude travel, but it does have quite a bit to offer.
First of all I should mention the Bali breeze. After spending the last several months in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Kuala Lumpur, all of which can be stiflingly hot and humid, Team Single Dude greatly appreciated Bali’s breeze, low humidity and clear … [Read more]
Recently, team Single Dude found themselves on a short trip to Patong Beach in Phuket, Thailand. A lot has changed since I’d been there last about 5 years ago. Patong Beach is now second only to Pataya in terms of its filth and debauchery. I don’t mind the filth, although that’s not my end goal in a vacation destination, so much as I mind all the tourist trap-ism. Phuket has turned into a town for the locals to extract as much as money in as short a period of time as possible from the hordes of Western, Russian, Chinese, and other tourists.
Where to begin? Ever been to a Thai go-go bar? … [Read more]
We’ve been absolutely dying to visit Macau for years, especially ever since we heard that Macau overtook Vegas as the number one gambling destination back in 2007. Being that Macau is only a short, cheap ($20 USD) one hour jet boat ride from Hong Kong, which is a favorite destination of ours, there is really no excuse that it took us so long to visit.
Right off the bat we’ve gotta say, it was a big let down. Granted we were only there on a week day and it could have been an “off night” but still, given all the hype it was pretty lame. Macau may rake in more gambling … [Read more]
In this podcast, our last from our trip to the Philippines, we have a wide ranging discussion with our final impressions of the country. Topics include Grandpa Boners, Bunny Boilers, ladyboys, bad food, and of course, midgets.
Manila, the Cons
Boracay and Ladyboys
How to spot a ladyboy
Up Yours, Rebecca Watson!
Alright dudes, this is definitely not the sexiest topic of discussion, but unless you’re the luckiest stud on the planet that manages to exclusively date hot virgins, chances are your girl has been with at least one other guy. Well Sex-Ed 101 taught us that despite your sweet little angel having only banged one other guy her entire life, that one dude just gave her all the accumulated pathogens from the hundred whores he’s been with. So this topic is unpleasant, but the following could save some dude’s life out there. So first I will elaborate on the dilemma Single Dudes face, then offer my own personal story, and lastly present the solution I arrived at.
The simple … [Read more]
A while back I wrote a long article about the cons of Manila, in the Philippines, and called it Manila Part One, so I suppose I’m obligated to come up with a Part Two in case you find yourself in Manila and have to make the best of it. I don’t like Manila, so this may be a short article.
I don’t think that Manila is an ideal location for many of the things that I like, really. The food is terrible, it’s very hard to find drugs, the chicks are cute but super boring, it’s not as cheap as it should be, and it’s too hot. The only thing that I’m into that Manila is excellent for … [Read more]
The day after Boris’ near death experience in Singapore we decided to get the hell out of town and explore some other options in Southeast Asia. A quick perusal a week before of cheap destinations found us a cheap ticket to Manila, the bustling capital of the Philippines. After dealing with the typical severe retardation of Tiger Airlines (the Singaporean discount airline) we found ourselves on a Jetstar (an Australian discount airline) flight to Manila with Boris’ head wrapped up in something that resembled some sort of religious headgear. We ended up spending over two weeks in Manila, which was way too long. We kind of got sucked in.
Manila is pretty much a shithole. Nowhere else in my … [Read more]
